Rituals for Healing

When you have an injured or sick loved one, sometimes you feel so helpless it’s unbearable. Yes, you do what the doctor tells you to (or get a second opinion), and whether it’s practicing proper hygiene, delivering adequate doses of medication, or simply waiting, it’s probably the best you can do from a medical standpoint.

But what about a spiritual one? Sending positive thoughts, prayers, healing energy—these are all things you can do that not only may be beneficial to your loved one, but also help connect you to him or her in an empowering and loving way. Here are a few very simple healing rituals that you could do if you are interested in this.

Send loving, positive thoughts. My daughter and I do this in a very simple way—a very similar gesture to the common prayer. Instead of folding our hands, we put a hand over our hearts and then hold each other’s other hand, and murmur healing wishes together, or simply close our eyes and send strong thoughts of good health to the person we’re thinking about.

Visualize health. This can be such a powerful tool. If you follow the Law of Attraction (also known as The Secret) or do any spell work, you know how important visualization and positive thinking are.  When one of my loved ones gets injured or sick, I always ask people to visualize the person well with me. If he or she is in a hospital bed sick or injured, we picture him or her sitting up, smiling, being well, walking out of the hospital completely healed, and returning to the same condition he or she was in prior to being admitted.

The beauty of these two methods is that they can be done at the hospital if need be.

Take a healing bath. While this is often used for self-healing, you can amplify your visualization through the use of a healing bath. Using your favorite candles (white, blue, purple, or whatever holds the most meaning for you) or essential oils (lavender, chamomile, clary sage, or whatever you wish) for health, take your ritual bath, meditating on the person in question.

Like any rituals, the best ones are the ones that hold the most meaning to you. This often means creating your own. So if you come up with your own unique, personal healing rituals to use, go for it—the more personal, the better.
